For Don's Birthday episode, we discuss the oeuvre of German filmmaker Christian Petzold on this week's The Academy Academy.

Petzold's work often deals with the ramifications and fallout of Germany's recent past. The East German Paranoid Police State. A Post-War Germany whose national psyche mirrors its crumbling edifices. A world seemingly going through the motions of our past in what looks like our present.

Who gets to escape? How do you live in a world so thoroughly mired in acts of evil and atrocity? How do you prevent the past from repeating itself? Is that even possible?
